One Voice Allied Therapies

Our speech pathology clinic aim is to meet the communication needs of children and their families.  We offer assessment and therapy for children from babies to teens in our new, friendly Kirwan clinic.  We also provide voice, swallowing, speech and general communication therapy for adults.

Our Speech Pathologists are fully qualified and are members of Speech Pathology Australia.  All our therapists participate in the professional self-regulation program which allows them to maintain a status of Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist (CPSP) ensuring you get the most up-to-date care.

Children

We love working with kids to help them connect with the world around them.  An initial assessment can provide in-depth information on your child’s abilities and areas of difficulty.  This will help the speech pathologist determine whether your child needs further assistance in the way of therapy and may help contribute more information towards a complex diagnosis by other health professionals.

Therapy sessions will cater to your child’s individual needs and the focus is on fun!  The speech pathologist will work with you to give you the tools to help your child and maximise the achievements gained in therapy.  We want you and your child to enjoy coming to therapy!

Adults

A private consultation with a speech pathologist in our comfortable office will allow you to fully convey your communication, voice or swallowing concerns.  Therapy will be targeted to your personal needs and goals.  Tell us what you want to achieve!

You do not need a doctor’s referral to see a speech pathologist, but in some situations, clients may be eligible for Medicare funding under a GP care plan.  HICAPS is available in our clinic so claiming from your private health fund can be done easily, on the spot.  DVA clients are welcome!

Young Speech Pathology

Our goal has always been to create a family centered practice that offers therapy services in ways that are flexible and sensitive to the different needs and preferences of each individual family. Why?  Because when therapy works for the family – it helps the child! Holistic care considers the ‘whole’ child – this includes their family.

Our focus areas.

All of the services we offer here at Young Speech Pathology primarily focus around the improvement and development of five key areas communication.

Speech - Using our teeth, tongue, lips, jaw and palate to make sounds.

Language - Receptive language:  the comprehension of language. Expressive language the ability to express ideas, thoughts and feelings using language. Both receptive and expressive language include -  literacy skills and pragmatics – the way we use our language socially.

Fluency - How fluent our speech is – a breakdown in fluency is known as stuttering.

Voice How our voice sounds when we talk. This is affected by features such as loudness (too loud, too soft), pitch (too high, too low), and quality (rough, breathy, harsh).

Feeding and Mealtimes  Involves working with feeding difficulties and picky or fussy eaters.

When are we needed?

Families access speech pathology for many different reasons. Here are some examples:

  • a child with autism
  • a child who stutters
  • a child who is difficult to understand
  • a child who is an extremely picky eater
  • a child with reading or spelling difficulties
  • a child who struggles to understand directions or follow conversation

Never feel that any question is too small or silly – we’re here to help. Remember that we can’t help to fix an issue if we don’t know about it!

Young Speech Pathology is a registered Allied Health Service provider.
